a $10 gift card.
On July 19, many IT employees discovered what is a CrowdStrike outage. People around the world were in the position to work under stressful conditions and overtime to combat the unexpected event.
The cybersecurity company knows the damage the CrowdStrike outage caused. To make it up to their partners and teammates and to apologize for the extra work they had to take, CrowdStrike offered a $10 Uber Eats gift card.
Daniel Bernard, the company business officer, sent an email to all the partners on Tuesday. The email offered an apology and an explanation for the incident. Also, the company thanked everybody for solving the CrowdStrike outage alongside the company the quick action and rewarded them with a voucher for the next “cup of coffee or late-night snack”.
What is a CrowdStrike outage caused by? The representative mentioned that the outage was caused by a faulty Falcon file that has now been removed. “The impacted version of the file 291 was added to Falcon’s known-bad list in the CrowdStrike Cloud,” said Daniel Bernard in his email.
The compensation was sent to the partners from the Accelerate Program. The companies from this program sell and manage CrowdStrike for customers. Kevin Benacci - the cybersecurity company spokesperson mentioned that “CrowdStrike did not send gift cards to customers or clients”.
The compensation is only for the workers who tried alongside the company to solve the CrowdStrike outage. Their effort to help all the customers affected and their proactivity and time were appreciated by the company.
But what is a CrowdStrike problem without another? The receivers could not use the apology vouchers sent. The next day after the email, people said they could not redeem the offer. The voucher was no longer valid for them. Kevin Benacci confirmed the vouchers were sent and could not be used due to the cancelation of the issuing party. “Uber flagged it as a fraud because of high usage rates,” Benacci said. It is unclear whether there will be another compensation for those who could not use the voucher.
This apology gesture is too small for the financial damage it caused. This event caused Fortune 500 companies approximately $5 billion in direct losses. CrowdStrike stock is down 30% in the last month. Friday, during the events, CrowdStrike stock was down 14%. The CrowdStrike stock downfall doubled this month, since the outage.
