AMD, also known as Advanced Micro Devices, is a company that was launched in 1969 and has been delivering intelligent solutions for microprocessors, motherboards, and laptops or computers ever since. More recently, the company has extended its products to new areas such as gaming, data centers, and high-performance computing.
With those last models of AI chips, AMD strives to compete with Nvidia and Intel, their biggest competitors, and the AI chips those companies have launched. Lisa Su, AMD’s chair and CEO, said, “AI is our number one priority, and we’re at the beginning of an incredibly exciting time for the industry as AI transforms virtually every business, improves our quality of life, and reshapes every part of the computing market,” at the Computex tech conference.
AMD's new AI chip will be a direct competitor to Intel’s new upcoming models, Lunar Lake and Snapdragon X, Qualcomm’s latest chip software. All those chips work alongside Microsoft and deliver AI-powered solutions such as the Copilot - AI chatbot.
The company is now competing with Nvidia’s plan to release new chip models every year, compared with the two-year timeline used in the past. “AI is our number one priority as a company, and we have harnessed all of the development capability within the company to do that” and that “This annual cadence is there because the market requires newer products and newer capabilities... Every year we have the next big thing such that we always have the most competitive portfolio.", reported Su.
The CEO also revealed at the conference that their fifth EPYC server processor would be revealed this year “to continue the leadership performance and efficiency of the AMD EPYC processor family.”.Even more so, “You’re gonna see Zen 5 everywhere from supercomputers to data centers and PCs,”.
