Last year, YouTube released a feature for its app, where selected creators in the U.S. were able to generate AI songs via prompts using the voices of various artists such as Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, John Legend, Sia, and others.
Now, YouTube comes with a better feature also for selected creators, a YouTube AI song generator, allowing them to remix a track using artificial intelligence by only describing how they want to change the overall style of the song.
For this new YouTube AI music generator feature, the streaming platform is partnering with selected music labels to offer creators access to specific songs for the new YouTube remix trial.
It’s important to mention that if a creator is included in a test group, they are able to select an eligible song and select the “Restyle a track” option to describe how they want to restyle the song. This YouTube AI song generator option will further generate using artificial intelligence, a 30-second long snippet to be used by creators in their YouTube Shorts videos.
For the support page, Google mentioned that the YouTube AI-generated snippet will be connected to the original song through the Short videos and the Shorts Audio pivot page. But besides that, this option will have a specific label that can indicate that the short track was generated using artificial intelligence technology.
Last year, YouTube released a similar feature called the Dream Track feature in November 2023, in partnership with the Lyrica music generation model which is developed by Deepmind company. Back then, the streaming platform introduced a tool that was able to generate a track based on a user simply humming a tune.
YouTube stated at the release of the Dream Track feature “These experiments explore the potential of AI features to help artists and creators stretch their imaginations and augment their creative processes. In turn, fans will be able to connect to the creatives they love in new ways, bringing them closer together through interactive tools and experiences. All of this will help us iterate and enhance the technology, informing applications for the future,”
Also, it’s worth mentioning that, YouTube confirmed way before releasing these tools that plan to compensate the artist for using their tracks and songs for different artificial intelligence purposes. So, it seems that the streaming platform announced a partnership with Universal Musci Group in order to find a way to pay for the copyrights.
We are expecting more details and information about this new YouTube remix feature, and we are excited to see how artificial intelligence will be integrated into more YouTube features!
