It seems that this new unsupervised option will be first introduced to the Robotaxi service in Austin City, Texas.
“We just want to put a toe in the water, make sure everything’s okay, put a few more toes in the water, with the safety of the general public and those in the car as a top priority,”, Elon Musk stated in the recent earnings call.
These unsupervised electric vehicles will be a part of the company’s owned fleet rather than customer-owned cars. This news comes after Musk promised not long ago that various Tesla electric car owners would be able to add their EVs to the “ Tesla Network” in order to perform ride-sharing services.
Elon Musk chose not to reveal many details about this new service for its robotaxis, but we know for sure that there will be no drivers in the electric vehicle because the robotaxi will use the Full Self-Driving software. He also stated that the FSD Tesla software is planned to be launched in California too along with many other cities and regions in the U.S. territory.
It should be mentioned that according to Elon Musk's statement, Tesla's personal owners will be able to add their electric cars to this program until next year.
In the CEO’s vision, 2025 is considered to be maybe the most significant year in the history of the company due to the various plans and visions that Elon Musk wants to implement in the U.S.
To further support its idea, the Tesla company posted on its X ( formerly Twitter account) a video with various Tesla electric vehicles, Model 3 and Model Y that drive without manual intervention. But it’s important to note that these electric cars are driving inside the Tesla’s factory roads and with no more than 1.2 miles per hour.
It’s true that various Tesla EV’s experienced issues and problems with the self-driving option because as stated by many sources, the system fails to recognize different situations or traffic participants. Elon Musk promised that the FSD would be further improved in order to ensure safety conditions for all drivers.
Currently, Elon Musk is waiting to have regulatory approval from Austin and California cities to operate a commercial autonomous ride-sharing service.
We must wait and see how long it takes for Tesla to officially launch the FSD service in California, as we already know that is planned to be implemented in Austin, Texas in June this year.
