he API Elon Musk has talked about in the past, has finally come around. The API has available a generative AI model that powers many of its features on its
social media platform – X.
The xAI API has a single model only named “grok-beta” that is priced at $5 million per input token, meaning approximately 750,000 words or $15 per million output tokens. If you are new to the term token, it stands for subdivided bits of raw data such as syllables. So, you can interpret them like this “ex”, “ce”, “llent” from the word excellent.
It is, however, not known yet which Grok model “grok-beta” will be as the Grok 2 is the latest version available on X. The information regarding the API talks about the Grok 2 and Grok Mini, which are lightweight and more budget-friendly versions of Grok.
The xAI API makes phone calls possible and also connects Grok models to other external tools such as external databases and search engines. Even though they are not visible yet, the documentation shows otherwise, demonstrating that models will be capable of analyzing both text and images, as TechCrunch reported in an article.

It's also worth mentioning that xAI was founded last year, shortly after Elon Musk’s company released its first Grok models on X and X Premium+ users who are paying $16 a month.
Grok also has “a rebellious streak” for responding to “spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems.” as Elon Musk says. So, more directly, Grok will say things as they are and will also use colorful language, compared to ChatGPT where you won’t hear a bad word.
On the social media platform, Grok has the ability to generate images and even summarise events from the platform. xAI is coming strong, competing with strong competition, rising over 6$ billion in funding in a funding round in May.
In the speech held for the funding round for xAI, Elon Musk said that they would be training their artificial intelligence models on other Musk companies such as The Boring Company, SpaceX, or Tesla.
