vehicles to American Lease, a vehicle leasing company that rents cars to Uber and Lyft drivers in New York.
The stock of 3,300 Fisker vehicles will be bought for $46.25 million in a “reasonably good working order”.
According to court papers, the EVs that are in good shape could be sold for $16,500, while some damaged electric vehicles might be traded for $2,500 as they require repairings of about $5,000.
The court decision was unexpectedly established Tuesday afternoon because the Fisker car company had previously received a major objection to the sale. They accused the EV’s chief restructuring officer, John DiDonato, and its lawyers of not paying enough attention to the inventory to get the best deal possible.
Also, the Department of Justice Office of the U.S. Trustee stated that the Fisker car company had not explained how the electric vehicles were evaluated and the lawyers rushed to get the deal done.
The chief restructuring officer responded to the attacks explaining that they contacted several potential buyers for their stock of Ocean EVs in June. Still, none of them wanted to close the deal.
The price that American Lease LLC will pay is considerably lower in comparison to what some EV customers paid for the Fisker Ocean car which once was promoted as the “future of clean mobility”. This deal is pronouncing the end of the Fisker electric vehicles company after a succession of production issues and delivery delays for the Ocean car.
After hearing the offer, Judge Brendan L. Shannon stated that he is considering American Lease LLC a “functionally purple unicorn” since they are willing to wait for the pending recalls to clear. After that, they will execute some work on the electric vehicles and work with the Fisker Owners Association to provide spare parts for the owners of Fisker Ocean cars.
In the following days, about 1,000 Ocean SUVs will be bought by American Lease LLC for $14 million. And another 500 electric vehicles should be sold by Fisker next week for $6 million.
The money from sales will provide salaries for the remaining employees working on the software updates and recalls to facilitate the electric vehicle sales.
