His new AI company aims to create safe superintelligence, as its name already implies.
The new artificial intelligence company has been founded in collaboration with former Y Combinator partner Daniel Gross and former OpenAI engineer Daniel Levy. Sutskever intentions were to create a future where we can trust and use AI without having bad consequences overcome our way. Sutskever and his two co-founders are looking forward to collaborating with Jan Leike, who also worked at OpenAI’s Superinteligent team.
However, it is also worth mentioning that Both Sutskever and Leike left OpenAI after major concerns regarding its safety. Even more so, Leike is the leader of a safety team at OpenAI rivel Anthropic.
SSI wrote in a post from X that “SSI is our mission, our name, and our entire product roadmap because it is our sole focus. Our team, investors, and business model align to achieve SSI.
We approach safety and capabilities in tandem as technical problems to be solved through revolutionary engineering and scientific breakthroughs. We plan to advance capabilities as fast as possible while making sure our safety always remains ahead. This way, we can scale in peace. Our singular focus means no distraction by management overhead or product cycles, and our business model means safety, security, and progress are all insulated from short-term commercial pressures.”
Even more so, Sutskever had an interview with Bloomberg where he talked about his new company and the necessary funding, SSI being built as a non-profit company.” It will be fully insulated from the outside pressures of having to deal with a large and complicated product and having to be stuck in a competitive rat race.”.
He also talked about the safety measurements that can be taken in order to maintain and achieve safety levels “By safe, we mean safe like nuclear safety as opposed to safe as in ‘trust and safety,’” he says.”.
As technology is becoming a bigger and bigger part of our lives, we can hope that artificial intelligence safety will become a priority for all tech companies responsible for its advancements. Sutsekver also said in his interview for Bloomberg, “You’re talking about a giant super data center that’s autonomously developing technology. That’s crazy, right? It’s the safety of that that we want to contribute to.”.
