greener future is a topic that needs to be addressed in all working industries. Climate change is taking our planet over and acting in ways that got us
wondering and questioning all industries. We live in a society where climate change has become a normality and we need to change our focus and see the problems that lay underneath agriculture and the carbon footprint.
After all, ever since Guy Callendar talked about how the planet's temperature is rising and playing a significant role in the planet’s health, the focus has been put on climate change-causing factors. Callendar came to this conclusion after measuring data from more than 140 stations and proving the negative impact that humanity has on the planet. When Callender stated that the level of CO2 (carbon dioxide) was rising triggering the planet’s temperature to change and have an overall negative impact, scientists found his arguments implausible. It wasn't until the evidence became overwhelming that people began to take his findings seriously.
Yet, other gas emissions that mankind is responsible for are correlated with global warming. Some of them are called greenhouse gases, being responsible for about 20 percent of global emissions, and are more than 25 times as potent as carbon dioxide (CO2) at trapping heat in the atmosphere. However, agriculture is one of the biggest producers of CO2, worsening the whole climate change problem.
Nowadays, new technology is everywhere, waiting around the corner and coming up with solutions and ideas that have the power to revolutionize the whole industry. And, when it comes to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in the agriculture sector, the possibilities don’t disappoint us.
What in the past was a difficult and labor-intensive industry, that required manual and brute force, has now transformed and became nearly unrecognizable. Back then, farmers, relied on traditional methods to manage our corps, which, unfortunately, involved a lot of guesswork and experience to determine when to water our corps. This is where new technology entered the game and combined artificial intelligence (AI) in order to deliver solutions, that are at the same time, sustaining more sustainable practices. And, CropX is a company that has been mindful of these issues.

CropX is an agricultural analytics startup that leverages the use of new technology in order to deliver and help farmers with a viable and easy-to-use source of information regarding their crops. This means that you basically insert a device inside the soil where you plan to have a crop and then download an app. CropX’s vision was to create a new technology system that could provide farmers with the help of AI-integrated algorithms with real-time data on soil moisture levels, allowing us to make informed decisions about when to water our crops and have more sustainable agriculture.
With this new technology, we are able to make more sustainable decisions based on artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and be offered reliable information. The technology that is used in the analyzing process is a combination of data gathered both from the soil and from the satellite regarding any detail considered useful, such as the type of soil, the humidity, the salinity, and others.
With the help of AI solutions such as CropX, we can hope for more sustainable practices in the food industry to increase as a trend in the following years as we need to pay more attention to our resources while also producing nutritious foods. What CropX has accomplished since 2015 onwards is to create a great tool that helps farmers become prepared for an industry that could hardly have been predicted in the past. We are excited to see where they are going with this idea, as the last years have come with big partnerships for this promising startup, with names like NASA and PepsiCo choosing to associate themselves with CropX.
