Apple and Google agree to notify users when possible unknown devices are tracking their Bluetooth devices. In the announcement made on Monday, the two tech giants agreed to incorporate in their Android and iPhone alerts that will let users know when something might be tracking their devices. Apple and Google have created a standard called “Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers” that will be introduced on the IOS 17.5 and Android 6.0+ devices.
In 2021, when Airtags were first introduced, the initial purpose of the Airtag or Find My devices was to protect users, keep their belongings safe, and help them find items that they usually misplace, such as keys. However, after serious complaints about the tracker being used not for the best purposes and users ending up harmed after an Airtag or Find My device was used to follow them. So, Apple and Google treated the problem seriously and created a standard that has the meaning of keeping users safe.
With this new feature, all users who have IOS 17.5 and Android 6.0+ will receive a notification that will let them know that “[Item] Found Moving With You” when a Bluetooth tracking device can be observed following them. And the best part is that the device would be recognized regardless of the platform and device pairing.
When receiving the notification, this means that an AirTag FindMy accessory or any other Bluetooth-connected tracking device will be following them. In the case where you are being tracked, your iPhone or Android device is able to see the device and help you locate it, as it can play its sound to help find it. Even more so, other tracker production companies such as Pebblebee, Chipolo, Eufy Motorola, and Jio have agreed to create compatible devices.
