Google released them by posting a teaser video on X (formerly Twitter). A couple of hours after Google revealed the Pixel 9 Pro, the company is showing off the new Google flip phone, Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The teaser video confirms the Internet leaks, including a redesign with flatter sides and an elliptic camera bar.
The company teases AI and Gemini integration with Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel 9 Pro. This reveal is not quite surprising because of the announcements Google made in May. The teaser highlights that the Pixel 9 Pro is made for the Gemini and shows a user who asks the AI to write a breakup letter to the old phone. The leaks have also insinuated that the folding phone and Google Pixel 9 Pro might sustain a multimodal version of the Gemini Nano AI model. The Gemini Nano AI model can handle media and text and will come with a year of access to Gemini Advanced in the cloud.
In their brief clip, the company only wants to say little about the Google Pixel Fold or the Google flip phone. Also, the Google Pixel 9 Pro has a faster Tensor G4 chip, a new cellular modem, a quicker fingerprint reader, and other updates.
The Pixel Fold review stated that the camera bump is thicker. Unlike the original Pixel Fold, the new folding phone will prevent it from lying flat on the tablet. The Google Fold phone review also discusses the display. The Pixel Fold should support larger displays on the front and inside – like the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Android Authority news compares the first generation of Pixel Fold to the new folding phone. The news claims that the new folding phone has changed compared to the first one. The new Google flip phone changed both screens' hinge and aspect ratio. The news also mentioned that the leaks made people think the Google Pixel Fold would be in two colors. The new Google Fold and the Google Pixel 9 Pro will be available for pre-order at the end of the event on August 13th. The company will launch four new Pixel phones at the event on August 13th – Pixel 9, Google Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. With smartphones, Google will launch a new watch, Pixel Watch 3, which will have an extra large size.
