ecently various sources stated that many companies from the Google Chrome browser extensions have been compromised by a hacker action to steal data and expose user information.
Among many other victims, Cyberheaven, the California-based data protection company has confirmed these allegations about the data breach in a recent statement for Reuters. The company stated that due to a malicious update for the Google Chrome extension, hackers were able to access many user's data including passwords and other personal information. After finding out about this event, Cyberheaven sent an email to all affected users.
The statement said, "Cyberhaven can confirm that a malicious cyberattack occurred on Christmas Eve, affecting our Chrome extension,". The attack indeed was "part of a wider campaign to target Chrome extension developers across a wide range of companies."
It seems that on the morning of December 25, the hackers managed to break into the corporate accounts and released a malicious update to the company’s Google Chrome extensions that exposed many customer’s data and personal information.
When asked for further details, Cameron Coles the Cyverheaven spokesperson refused to comment on this situation and about the authenticity of the email sent.
"We are actively cooperating with federal law enforcement.", the data protection company stated.

The company’s daily business is focused on offering various products that could protect users from cyberattacks, including browser extensions. These extensions analyze and monitor all the activities in order to prevent any suspicious activity on the websites. So, according to the Chrome Web Store, the Cyberheaven company has about 400,000 corporate users who are looking to protect all their personal information from hackers.
Even more so, the cyber security company refused to disclose how many customers were affected by the hacker's breach and also how many of them have been notified about these events. It’s important to mention that Cyberheaven cyber security company has Motorola, Reddit, and Snowflake as customers among many other important companies to provide data protection.
Jaime Blasco, the co-founder and the CTO of Nudge Security, has recently stated in an X post that many other Google Chrome extensions, including companies with tens of thousands of users, have been compromised as part of the same hacker action. Although his company wasn’t targeted by the hackers, Jaime Blasco is still investigating the cyber attack to see if others were affected long before the Cyberheaven cyber security breach.
“It seems it wasn’t targeted against Cyberhaven, but rather opportunistically targeting extension developers. “I think they went after the extensions that they could based on the developers’ credentials that they had.”, he stated for TechCrunch.
Stay tuned for more updates!
