ccording to some people familiar with this situation, it seems that Mets has decided to lay off employees from different departments, such as WhatsApp, Instagram,
and Reality Labs. These layoffs are not in mass because Meta doesn’t want major restructuring, only reorganizing specific teams.
Various former Meta employees had posted on their social media accounts about their Meta job cuts, For example, Jane Manchun Wong posted on her Threads account that the company informed her that these Mate layoffs 2024 had impacted her job. Before joining the Threads team in 2023, Jane Manchun Wong made herself popular in social media for reporting different unannounced features that were soon to come in apps.
Also, according to a company spokesperson who stated for The Verge, some Meta teams made changes to ensure complete alignment with the long-term goals and also with the location strategy.
“Today, a few teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy,”.
So, this person confirmed that some people may experience moving from one team to another or moving to a different role.

“This includes moving some teams to different locations and moving some employees to different roles. In situations like this when a role is eliminated, we work hard to find other opportunities for impacted employees.”
in Earlier this year, the Reality Labs division also faced a small series of Meta layoffs. In 2022, Meta initially laid off 11,000 employees due to overconfidence in the post-pandemic growth of the company. After that, in 2023, as part of the Mark Zuckerberg “year of efficiency” additional 10,000 more Meta layoffs happened.
The Verge report does not give a specific number of Meta job cuts but it mentioned that it is very small compared with the previous Meta job cuts.
Apart from this report, the Financial Times also made a report and stated that the Meta company has fired about two dozen employees and staff in Los Angeles because they supposedly used their $25 meal credits to buy different household items such as laundry detergents, wine glasses, and other items.
But these Meta job cuts seem to be separate from the recent Meta layoffs 2024, the FT report stated.
In their last second-quarter earnings reports, the Meta company exceeded the market expectations for their revenue. The company also offered an optimistic sales perspective for the next quarter, indicating that the strong digital ad spending across their social media platforms can compensate for the costs of their AI investments.
