The Neuralink chip registers brain activity via 1,024 electrodes distributed across 64 flexible leads. Elon Musk said on a podcast that the second person had a spinal cord injury like the first patient. Elon Musk said 400 electrodes on the second brain of the patient are working.
`I don’t want to jinx it but it seems to have gone extremely well with the second implant,` Elon Musk told on the podcast. `There’s a lot of signal, a lot of electrodes. It’s working very well.` Elon Musk declared that Neuralink will implant the brain chip in eight more persons this year in the context of their clinical trials. This ambition illustrates Elon Musk's sureness in technology.
Neuralink first patient, Noland Arbaugh, shared details on the podcast with three Neuralink executives. He declared that before receiving the Elon Musk Neuralink, he used a stick in his mouth to tap the screen. With the brain chip, Noland can think about what he wants to happen on the screen, and the device makes it happen.
`Progress is good and the patient seems to have made a full recovery, with no ill effects that we are aware of. The patient can move a mouse around the screen by just thinking, ` Elon Musk said. Also, Noland said: `It has given me the ability to do things on my own again without needing my family at all hours of the day and night`.
After a few days, some of the 64 threads of Neuralink brain chip got disconnected. Neuralink said only 15 percent of the chip channels are working. Yet, Noland can still watch videos, read, and do other tasks. Also, Elon Musk wants to change the brain chip design to prevent the device electrodes from retracting from the brain.
