n Tuesday, OpenAI said that they will develop AI products for South Korea, using chat app operator Kakao, revealing their second major alliance from this week
with a high-profile partner.
Sam Altman, OpenAI’s Chief Executive, also had been in discussions with big companies such as Samsung Electronics, Arm Holdings, and Soft Bank. Masayoshi Son also told reporters for Reuters that the Stargate AI data center project in the US has been in discussion.
Altman announced on Monday, during its Asia tour, a partnership with SoftBank regarding AI services for Japan. He is also allegedly scheduled to visit India starting Wednesday, having scheduled a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Even more so, Kakao also said that they will be using technology that is developed by ChatGPT, the same as SoftBank did. Kakao is the one that operates and manages one of the most notorious messaging apps in the South Korean market. The app has 97% of domestic market shares that have expanded to larger areas such as e-commerce, payments, and also gaming.
The app has positioned itself as a new engine of AI, yet analysts say that it remains behind its competitor Naver.

Altman stated in a press conference that “We are particularly interested in AI and messaging,”. Also adding that Korea’s energy, internet, and semiconductor companies put the country on OpenAI’s radar due to its growing demand for AI products.
Even more so, Sam Altman said that many Lorean companies will, in the future, be contributors to Stargate Data Centre, forming a venture between OpenAI and Oracle. In order to build AI capacity in the United States, the project is also being backed by President Donald Trump.
Before the meeting, SoftBank’s Son said that a potential cooperation with Samsung it is under discussion: “We had a very good discussion”.
