cuts to federal agencies. Even more so, this became more official after Trump signed several executive orders among which we can find.
DOGE is run by Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk, and aims to eliminate entire federal agencies and cut down three-quarters of the federal government jobs.
Anna Kelly, Trump’s spokesperson said that Vivek Ramasawamy was the co-chair of the group, yet Ramaswamy left his position to run for the presidential elections. Even more so, Trump said in his inaugural speech on Monday “To restore competence and effectiveness to our federal government, my administration will establish the brand new Department of Government Efficiency,".
The White House announced on Monday that the group’s purpose is to “ "modernize federal technology and software.". Trump told reporters that he plans to hire 20 individuals that ensure the implementation of the group’s purpose.
In the executive order signed by President Donald Trump, he mentioned “Section 1. Purpose. This Executive Order establishes the Department of Government Efficiency to implement the President’s DOGE Agenda, by modernizing Federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.”.
Even more so, the committee, it's not a department, despite its name, and it has limited official power that carry out the reorganization, including the power to fulfill the cuts that were proposed by Musk and Ramaswamy.

Also mentioned in the official executive order is “(b) Establishment of a Temporary Organization. There shall be a USDS Administrator established in the Executive Office of the President who shall report to the White House Chief of Staff. There is further established within USDS, in accordance with section 3161 of title 5, United States Code, a temporary organization known as “the U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization”. The U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization shall be headed by the USDS Administrator and shall be dedicated to advancing the President’s 18-month DOGE agenda. The U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization shall terminate on July 4, 2026. The termination of the U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization shall not be interpreted to imply the termination, attenuation, or amendment of any other authority or provision of this order.”.
It’s also worth mentioning that DOGE was sued within minutes by government employee unions and watchdog groups. Here we can encounter the National Security Counselors who alleged that DOGE was breaking the 1972 law. Among the groups and organizations that sued we can also find The American Public Health Organization, the American Federation of Teachers, and more.
