So, if the Reddit platform becomes an untrustworthy social media app, where users question every single comment and post, it will surely affect all its operations.
In order to protect the foundation of the Reddit community, the company has recently stated in a post that it is working hard to integrate certain third-party services and apps that can verify the user’s identity.
“To keep Reddit human and to meet evolving regulatory requirements, we are going to need a little more information. Specifically, we will need to know whether you are a human, and in some locations, if you are an adult. But we never want to know your name or who you are.”, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman stated in his post.
We don’t know for sure how users will react to this additional Reddit verification system because until now, the platform has not required any personal information for the login Reddit process.
Even more so, the Reddit spokesperson did not disclose the requirements that the platform will implement in the Reddit verification process. However, he confirmed that the Reddit social media platform has taken certain steps towards removing the AI bots.
For now, the third-party services, along with the AI verification steps, remain unknown until further notice.
There are a few options from which the platform might choose a third-party app for the Reddit verification process, such as Alloy, Stripe Identity, Persona, or Footprint. However, they require a certified ID in order to determine if an account is owned by a real person.
It remains to be seen whether Reddit users will like and approve this kind of Reddit verification process! Stay tuned for more updates!
