Samsung confirms it will launch an upgraded version of its voice assistant, Bixby, this year. They will create it using their own artificial intelligence models. The launch will be this year, in Paris. The upgrade was revealed in April. This comes after Samsung revealed in January their portfolio of S24 smartphones. At that time, Samsung confirmed the phones would have Google’s generative AI technology, called „Galaxy AI”.
TM Roh, the President and Head of the Mobile Experience Business, declared: „We’re going to advance Bixby with application of Gen AI technology”. Generative AI (Gen AI) is artificial intelligence that can generate images or answers. Thanks to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, digital assistants gained popularity. Roh TM, told to CNBC that the new Bixby will use the South Korean technology giant’s large language model, or LLM. LLM is an AI example qualified on various amounts of data. It is also the foundation of generative AI.
Samsung will allow many voice assistants on its devices. Google’s AI assistant is accessible on their new devices. Bixby’s upgrade comes after a month. During that month, Apple confirmed that its assistant, Siri, will get an AI upgrade. The launch of their new phones, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 revealed some AI features. This update can make Bixby more conversational, and it will be able to handle more complex tasks. This can include interactions with other apps. The new Bixby will launch with the new Samsung S25. The S25 will have design, camera and hardware upgrades. The new phone will be more powerful and stable than the previous ones. Launching both at the same time would be perfect timing.
