By the end of this year, Spotify’s car thing will no longer be useful for anyone who purchased it. Car Thing will become e-waste only two years after the product is launched, making many customers angry. Spotifiy’s attempt to create hardware products was not as successful as expected, with their car accessory being shut down altogether by December 9th, 2024.
Spotify is one of the biggest music streaming platforms that is used daily by millions of users around the world. The company was founded in 2008 and Spotify and since then it evolved into more than a platform for music, offering podcasts, and video streaming, and a place where any artist deserves to be listened to and empowered. It is also worth mentioning that Spotify offers both free and premium subscription plans.
Customers have already started receiving emails from Spotify, letting them know that the Car Thing dashboard accessory will be rendered inoperable. Even more so, the company is not offering any kind of refund or subscription credits for those customers who have purchased the device. The email received from Spotify stated, “We’re discontinuing Car Thing as part of our ongoing efforts to streamline our product offerings,.”
The company also stated on its website, “We understand it may be disappointing, but this decision allows us to focus on developing new features and enhancements that will ultimately provide a better experience to all Spotify users.”.
So, if you have purchased a Car Thing dashboard, Spotify recommends recycling the device responsibly. Even more so, the company will probably no longer try to produce a sequel of the product, focusing on its other projects and leaving the hardware industry behind. “As of now, there are no plans to release a replacement or new version of Car Thing,”
