Musk's the end of 2024. The humanoid prototype will also be ready for sale by the end of 2025.
This Monday, the executive chief of Tesla, Elon Musk announced that the low production of humanoid robots powered by artificial intelligence would begin. Elon Musk said Tesla will need more time to deliver what they promised they would and that the artificial intelligence human robots would be used for internal company tasks from 2025.
Elon Musk also said declared on X, the former Twitter, that “hopefully” Tesla will have humanoid robots in high production for other companies' use, in 2026.
The Japanese companies, Honda and Hyundai Motor’s Boston Dynamics, have already been working for several years to develop artificial intelligence humanoid robots powered by the technology of machine learning.
Machine learning is a specialization of the artificial intelligence field, that uses algorithms trained in data sets to create patterns. This would allow machines or humanoid robots to perform human tasks.
Machine learning helps humanoid robots move easily and efficiently. By analyzing sensor data and forecasting the outcome of their actions, humanoid robots are able to avoid obstacles, keep their balance, and accomplish moderately complex tasks with precision.
Several companies believe that this AI success sustained by humanoid robots would help them carry potential labor shortages and perform repetitive tasks that could be dangerous and dull to workers in industries such as logistics and manufacturing.
Although Elon Musk's Tesla AI technology helped many industries, Musk has a history of not accomplishing his courageous promises to Wall Street. He assured investors back in 2019 that Tesla would be working on an AI-autonomous “robotaxi” cars network by 2020. Some bad-mouths even said that Elon Musk made this bold announcement on X, only to distract attention from the promises he couldn’t keep.
As a reaction to these delays, Tesla’s share stocks decreased by 7% on Wall Street, discontinuing the last 10 quarters of constant growth.
Elon Musk Tesla first put out the first generation of Optimus humanoid robots, nicknamed Bumblebee, in September 2022. In December 2023, Tesla released a video of the second generation of AI humanoid robots, “Optimus Gen 2”.
The AI humanoid robots will have black and white bodies and will have a 30% walking speed boost and a 10kg weight reduction. Using the power of machine learning, Tesla also improved their balance and full-body control, added tactile sensing on all fingers, and made them carefully manipulate objects.
