Mark Gurman states that this phone can be considered a test release since Apple is preparing to launch in the next years the first foldable phones. So, this new thinner model can be a turning point for the Apple phone technology.
Indeed, the name of this new phone is not the latest concept since Apple released in the past thinner versions of regular models such as the MacBook or iPad. So, as Mark Gurman states, the next iPhone 17 Air will be about 2 millimeters thinner compared to current iPhone models. But other recent rumors declare that it will have a thickness of about 5.5 mm and 6.2mm thick.
It seems that the slim design for the next generations of iPhones represents a step forward for the giant Apple to reach the design for the first foldable iPhone or even iPad. Gurman also suggests that Apple is planning to release this spring a new model of the iPhone SE which will probably will have a similar design as the unreleased iPhone 17. So, the next iPhone SE is most likely to be a preview of the design and functionalities of the next iPhone series.
“To fold, iPhones and iPads will need to have bodies and displays that are as thin as possible — and the Air is a step toward that,”, Mark Gurman stated.

Even more, so, other past rumors have gone further in features and stated that the new iPhone 17 Air will have a 6.6 inch ProMotion OLED display with a refresh 120Hz refresh rate, seen until now only on the Pro models. The significant change will be also in the camera because the iPhone 17 Air is expected to have only a single 48-megapixel camera on the back along with a selfie camera of 24 megapixels. It could also be equipped with the A19 chip with *GB of RAM memory in order to support the newest Apple Intelligence capabilities.
This year other products are expected to be released by Apple such as smart doorbells, security cameras, and a new smart home hub. But even though these are for now just rumors, we must wait and see what products will Apple launch first this year.
