flights or significant delays. Sea Tac Airport says the Port of Seattle `experienced different system outages indicating a possible cyberattack earlier this morning.
On Saturday evening, the airport said it was still experiencing outages: `There is not an estimated time for return and Port teams continue to work to restore full service.` Also, they encouraged travelers to use airline apps to get their boarding passes and bag tags. Sea Tac airport reported the outage around 9 a.m. on Saturday. They suspected a cybersecurity attack around 1.30 p.m.
`We are working closely with appropriate authorities and partners to help travelers who may be impacted. If you are traveling today, please check with our airline partners for travel information and allow extra time to get to SEA and to your gate.` declared a spokesperson for Sea Tac airport.
The Port of Seattle was the target of a cybersecurity attack. Their website is still mostly offline. This cybersecurity attack comes after a month after the software update from CrowdStrike. It caused a global IT collapse, including flight cancellations and delays.
Many travelers complained about the potential cyberattack. Travelers like Maria Camilon Price and her daughter Alexis said they waited hours to check in for their flight. `They have to manually enter everybody’s information rather than the whole universal system. It’s frustrating and there have been people that have been here for over three hours now.`
Even if Price knew about the outages beforehand, some travelers didn’t know about the outages until they landed. Also, Lena Frank and Jan Lintz lost their connecting flight to Vancouver after waiting two hours on the plane at the gate. In the end, they had to rebook their flight.
`We were looking for so many spots to find like people to talk to that would be the airline or whatever and just found nobody. That hurts a bit because you feel like lost,` Rebooking was difficult because of the Wi-Fi down across the Sea Tac airport. Also, the website was down on Sunday. Travelers couldn’t check their flight status directly from the webpage. Port of Seattle faced a potential cyberattack at their Maritime Facilities as well. They shared a list of phone numbers for people to call in case of urgent matters.
