lue Origin, the company owned by Jeff Bezos, has delayed the first launch of the company’s first orbital skyrocket called New Glenn.
The skyrocket New Glenn Mega-Rocket was supposed to have the initial launch Monday morning, but due to an unknown issue with the rocket’s subsystems, the company has announced that the launch will be delayed until de problem is fully solved.
It’s true that skyrocket launch delays are very common for spaceflight companies, but here it might have some issues due to the fact that this Blue Origin launch represents the debut of the company in the spaceflight sector.
Monday, the three-hour window for the launch began at 1 a.m., but during the preparations, the skyrocket had an issue at a subsystem which delayed the launch multiple times until it was called off.
So, due to these unidentified issues, the company will probably need another 48 hours to reset the skyrocket for launching. Even more so, the Jeff Bezos space company has planned to have the skyrocket land on a drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean, a landing approach that is very similar to the SpaceX method. But it seems that the ocean’s conditions are most likely to worsen starting this week, which will make things much more difficult for the spaceflight company.
It’s important to mention that the New Glenn Mega-Rocket launch must be successful in order to have the Jeff Bezos space company included in the heavy-lift market which is dominated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX company. Until now, the Blue Origin space company has most focused on launching tourists along with science experiments into sub-orbital space by using the company’s smaller rocket, New Shepard.

But, the Blue Origin new rocket, the New-Glenn Mega-Rocket, is designed to reveal new opportunities in business for the space company. Blue Origin is already holding contracts to deliver payloads to space for companies such as NASA, Space Force, and others.
It should be mentioned that Jess Bezos's space company, Blue Origin has prepared a lot for the launching of the New Glenn skyrocket, which was initially planned to be in Canaveral, Florida on 13 January.
“Our key objective today is to reach orbit safely. Anything beyond that is icing on the cake.”, the Blue Origin company stated in their X post.
It remains to be seen when the next launch of the New Glenn Mega-Rocket will take place. Stay tuned for updates!
