esla has finally revealed their autonomous cars at the We, Robot event saying that not long from now, you’ll be able to purchase a Cybercab for less than $30,000.
The car has a similar look and design to the Cybertrcuk, resembling a sleeker version with two seats of the Cybertruck. As a pleasant surprise, Elon Musk presented to his fans a lineup of 20 vehicles with no steering wheel or even pedals. The event named “We, Robot” where all of the cars have been presented took place yesterday and happened at the Warner Bros Discovery studio. The event started with Elon Musk walking towards one of the robotaxi models and the car opened its doors. Musk made a short demo on the streets of the set for everyone to see. Even more so, Musk talked about the costs of autonomous cars and said that they would be so low that it would eventually lead to “individualized mass transit.” He also said that the average operating cost of the Cybercab will end up around $0.20 per mile. Leading to a cost below $30,00 for the car “And you will be able to buy one,”, said Musk.

He also said that he sees an optimistic timeline where the Cybercab is expecting to enter production “before 2027”. At the We, Robot event, participants were able to drive around in the 20 cars available there. “They have like 20 of them driving around the entire lot totally unsupervised,”. It is also worth mentioning that the Cybercab does not have a plug-in charger, instead, it has “ “inductive charging” which is wireless charging, as Musk said.

The autonomous bus can carry over 20 people and they can also carry goods. But, for this autonomous vehicle, there were no timelines revealed. The Robovan is only a picture of how the future can look like in the next years.

The robots were walking and dancing at the event and even preparing drinks for the guests.

Musk also talked about the costs of the robotaxi rides which are supposed to be less costly compared with public transportation. Yet in 2019 Musk spoke publicly that “By the middle of next year, we’ll have over a million Tesla cars on the road with Full Self-Driving hardware, feature complete, at a reliability level that we would consider that no one needs to pay attention, meaning you could go to sleep,”, and that “From our standpoint if you fast forward a year, maybe a year and three months, but next year for sure, we will have over a million robotaxis on the road. The fleet wakes up with an over-the-air update. That’s all it takes.” Which did not happen by 2020.
Tesla’s Cybercab needs to prove itself as a safe way of transportation before releasing the cars to the public. So, under the conditions where the Cybercab does not have a steering wheel and pedals, the new Tesla car would be put out of compliance with the federal vehicle safety measure laws.
