he Canada division of the TikTok social media platform has recently filed a motion from the Federal Court in Canada, which is requesting a judicial review
of a previous order. This previous decision stated that the TikTok company must shut down its operations in the country due to some national security concerns.
So, the ByteDance-owned social media platform has requested the Canadian Court to cancel the recent government order which demands that TikTok must close all its business in Canada, but the social media platform will remain accessible to Canadian users. On the other hand, the court filing stated that the court could overturn the government order and send it back for review with some additional instructions.
It should be mentioned that last year, Ottawa began to investigate TikTok’s social media platform plans to invest and expand its business in the country.
But the review had an unexpected turn, and the government ordered last month that the ByteDance-owned company must end all Canadian operations due to the fact that the government suspected various threats to Canadian national security.
However, TikTok stated in their statement that closing their Canadian business will eventually end up in hundreds of layoffs.
"We believe it's in the best interest of Canadians to find a meaningful solution and ensure that a local team remains in place, alongside the TikTok platform,", the ByteDance-owned social media platform stated.
It should be mentioned that last month Canadian Government order did not block Canadian user's access to the viral social media platform. According to TikTok, the platform has more than 14 million monthly active users in Canada.

It seems that the Canadian government follows the example of the recent U.S. decision which requires that TikTok ByteDance-owned company sell the U.S. assets until early 2025. If ByteDance TikTok does not comply with this recently signed law, will most likely face a ban all over the country.
Even more so, in the U.S., ByteDance and TikTok filed an appeal court in order to temporarily suspend this recently signed law and wait for a Supreme Court review.
