oyota Motor and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone also known as NTT is planning to invest 500 billion yen, meaning $3.27 billion by the end of 2030 in an
infrastructure and software platform that is using artificial intelligence in order to cut down the number of traffic accidents.
Both companies are working together and looking forward to developing an AI platform that uses large amounts of data and creates an environment where drivers can receive assistance technology. Their goal is to have a system that lowers the amount of traffic accidents by 2028.
The alignment between the car maker and the telecommunications company comes as a response to the pressure received by the Japanese automakers after the market of autonomous driving cars is dominated by Tesla and other Chinese firms, leaving Japan in the last place.
Together, Toyota and NTT said that they are hoping to prevent accidents that normally would occur in areas that have poor visibility, the automated driving services helping drivers have an easier experience in traffic.
