It seems that he is trying to dispute the potential ban of the TikTok social media platform from the U.S. market.
In April this year, the United States Senate approved a law that required ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company to sell the app in order to avoid the potential ban of the app citing concerns about national security.
Of course, this law approval has not been the best news for the Chinese company ByteDance, and along with TikTok tried to fight this decision with a case for the U.S. Supreme Court. It’s important to mention that if the U.S. Supreme Court does not roll out the decision in ByteDance’s favor, the company will face a social media ban in the U.S. on January 19. The recently elected U.S. President Donald Trump will take office a day later on January 20, 2025, so he can’t influence the U.S. Court decision.
"I think we're going to have to start thinking because, you know, we did go on TikTok, and we had a great response with billions of views, billions and billions of views,", Donald Trump stated at AmericaFest.
We don’t know for sure how the next U.S. President will be able to avoid the TikTok potential social media ban in the U.S. territory.
"They brought me a chart, and it was a record, and it was so beautiful to see, and as I looked at it, I said, 'Maybe we gotta keep this sucker around for a little while',", he also stated about TikTok’s situation.
According to some sources, Donald Trump has a meeting with the CEO of TikTok this Monday and later mentioned during a news conference that he had a “warm spot” for the app, thanks to his campaign’s success on the social media platform.
However, it seems that the Justice Department still believes that TikTok represents a threat to national security. In response, TikTok argues that the Justice Department has misrepresented the platform’s connections to China, emphasizing that TikTok’s content recommendation engine and user data are both stored in Oracle Corp’s cloud servers in the United States. Also, the social media platform adds that all the content moderation decisions for the U.S. app users are made inside the U.S. territory.
Stay tuned to see if the social media platform, TikTok will face a permanent ban or if the next U.S. President Donald Trump will obtain a temporary operation permission.
