users, more than 1 million users, since the U.S. election. It seems that users are choosing to switch toward BlueSky after Elon Musk’s warnings about the anti-hate speech campaign groups from the X (formerly Twitter) platform.
But what exactly is this new in-trend app?
BlueSky represents a social media platform, in which users are allowed to interact, reply, and message to each other in a vertical positioned UI (user interface). Initially, this social media platform began as just an internal project of the former CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey in 2019 and was a platform where users could log in just based on invitations. After that, the app opened to the public in February 2020, and since 2021 has been an independent company managed by its CEO Jay Graber.
In the recent wave of new users from North America and the UK, the BlueSky app recorded more than 15 million users worldwide, up from 9 million registered in September. The CEO stated in a post last Friday that the platform seems to grow with 10,000 new users every 15 minutes which represents an impressive growth. Also, the CEO is posting almost every single day about the impressive amount of new users on the BlueSky new social media platform.
This new social media BlueSky app recorded the first round of significant new users after the X platform was temporarily banned in Brazil, and registered about 3 million new users.
It seems that users chose to leave the X platform for the BlueSky app because after Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022 and rebranded it as X, the platform experienced significant changes such as removing protocols and cutting staff which managed to change the core guardrails of the X app. So, users communicate their disappointment with the switch over to the BlueSky social platform, which for now seems to be a good alternative similar to the old Twitter app.

Also, similar to X, the BlueSky new social media app operated on website and app and has X similar features such as a list option to allow users to add a collection of accounts in one group. This feature is able to let users make some bulk decisions for those accounts such as blocking, muting, or following.
Another platform that has risen in popularity is Meta’s Threads, which represents a competitor for X, and currently has 275 million monthly users according to the statement of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
It remains to be seen if BlueSky will be soon a serious competitor for the X social media app. Stay tuned for more updates!
