an electric two-wheeler named the `i300` will be in the United Kingdom next month, followed by Thailand. Also, Zapp EV will launch its product in India, representing an immense market that will test its global expansion strategy.
Zapp EV is a UK company that plans, constructs, and sells high-performance electric vehicles. The company points to sustainable transportation and has introduced full-cycle Gen-2. They launched their first EV product, the i300, in 2018. The i300 is one of the fastest-accelerating motorcycles on the market.
The i300, launched in 2018, is a sustainable transportation that comes with an aerospace-grade alloy load-bearing exoskeleton. The motor has a power of 14 kW and is an air-cooled one with two portable batteries.
The EV company forwarded its plan to expand to India after Chatsuwan saw the country’s potential. India is the second-biggest two-wheeler producer worldwide after China and has the most annual sales of two-wheelers.
“We thought India would be phase two for us when we did our research a few years ago, but we made a decision earlier this year that it can’t wait,” Chatsuwan said. The sustainable transportation company Indian Electric Vehicles owns Bounce Electric 1, the producer who makes and sells the EV i300 locally in the country. After the homologation process ends, the sales will begin in 2025.
The founder, Chatsuwan, declared that of the 17 million EV two-wheelers in India last year, 2,8 million were high-speed. 36% of them were heavy-weight cruisers from the Chenai-based brand Royal Enfield. The sustainable transportation company desires to copy Royal Enfield’s success with their first model. The launch in India will expand the EV company’s 60 million unit market by 25%.
“We’re not trying to conquer the world. We’re not trying to take half of Royal Enfield’s market share and sell 500,000 bikes in India. We’re not. We would see that our quality and performance peer is BMW, particularly their CE 02 and CE 04 step-through electric scooters.”, told the executive.
Despite other EV producers like Ola Electric or TVS Motor, which sell two-wheel electric vehicles between $1,000 and $1,800, the i300 will be more pricey. The Indian pricing is still deciding. The founder said it wouldn’t be “more than a million rupees, but I doubt it will be lower than 500,000 rupees.”
The sustainable transportation company plans to customize the i300 with multiple options and accessories. The company allows customers to customize their color and wheel design based on their wishes and add accessories. Zapp EV also desires to expand their products in Spain, Italy, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
