ndy Jassy, Amazon CEO, added comments this Thursday that might mean the launch of an advanced version of the all-known voice assistant “Alexa”.
This speculated version of the new “agentic” voice assistant would be able to take action by itself on behalf of its users.
Andy Jassy said during Amazon’s Q3 2024 earning meeting “I think that the next generation of these assistants and generative AI applications will be better at not just answering questions and summarizing indexing, and aggregating data, but also taking actions,” also added “And you can imagine us being pretty good at that with Alexa.”
He also talked about Amazon’s progress towards the modification of Alexa’s “brain”, the new features bringing “a new set of foundation models”. The new model is set to be revealed “in the near future.”.

It's also worth mentioning that Amazon first announced that a new and updated Alexa voice model would be coming in 2023. Even more so, they also announced back in 2023 that they would probably be replacing their own Alexa-powering models with worldwidesystems, reported TechCrunch. This software change was due to Alexa’s technical difficulties encountered after the voice assistant struggled to turn on smart lights during one of its requests.
“Remarkable Alexa” is set to be Alexa’s new name, allegedly costing between $5 and $10 per month, and also being available as a less capable model. The model is reported to be arriving in 2025, as Bloomberg reported.
Even though Alexa is a world-wide top-selling product, it did not contribute to Amazon’s bottom line revenue. The Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon has lost tens of billions of dollars over time since the device business was developed in 2017.
