pple is reportedly planning to redesign its operating systems across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.
According to a report by Bloomberg, this new look will be the most significant change to the macOS since macOS Big Sur in 2020, and iOS since iOS 7 in 2013. These are expected to be part of the iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS16 operating systems, which will be released later this year.
The new design is apparently “loosely” inspired by the Vision Pro’s software, Apple’s mixed-reality headset. Mark Gurman stated that it includes a new “style of icons, menus, apps, window, and system buttons”, bringing a more modern look across the Apple ecosystem.
Apple is also focused on making the control and navigation of its devices even more simple. The purpose is to make sure that the entire experience is more consistent across their software.
As part of the new iOS, iPadOS, and macOS operating systems, Apple plans to merge the two systems that Siri currently uses – one for basic commands like timers and alarms, and the other that handles more advanced tasks. This integration will enable Siri to respond more quickly to all types of queries.
Another feature that most Apple users will be most excited about is the redesign of the Camera app. YouTuber Jon Prosser stated that it “mirrors the design ethos from visionOS”, prioritizing transparency and streamlined controls.
It seems like the tech company may leverage the new operating systems to shift the attention away from delays in Siri AI and other system updates. Despite the possible upcoming launch of iOS 19, Apple is still trying to finish the rollout of features introduced in iOS 18 last year.
At the same time, the most anticipated Apple Intelligence features originally planned for iOS 18 have now been pushed to the iOS 19 cycle.
So, although the new look for these operating systems will be revealed soon, we should expect iOS 19 to be launched without several key features. They will, however, be gradually introduced in updates like iOS 19.1, iOS 19.2, iOS 19.3, and iOS 19.4.
