In a recent post on X (formerly) Twitter, Rose Yao, the Google product lead stated that the Google virtual assistant is developed using Duplex, a similar artificial intelligence service that books appointments over the phone. So, when using the Google new feature, every call will announce that the person is using an automated service from Google.
It should be mentioned that all businesses can choose to agree or disagree to receive calls from the AI assistant by changing their settings in Google Business Profile. Craig Ewer, Google’s spokesperson says that in order to make sure that certain places or businesses don’t receive calls frequently, the AI assistant will collect relevant information and provide them for users with similar requests.
Even more so, the AI feature is great because it eliminates the need to wait a very long time on hold, sometimes even hours, just to be able to speak with a customer service agent.
