n a recent announcement, Meta reported using artificial intelligence technology to identify those Instagram accounts that are possibly lying about their real age.
Meta company wants to protect all teens who are scrolling through social media platforms, and using this advanced AI technology, they will find various accounts that are presumed to belong to a teenager, even if it is an adult birthday.
Instagram launched a new social media feature last year called Teen Accounts, which was specially created for teen users to protect their social media accounts. These protection policies are directly applied to teen accounts and already have the option to impose limits on different social media content and on who is allowed to contact teens.
According to the Meta company, this Teens Instagram app feature has currently 54 million users worldwide, and the majority of users, exactly 97% of teen Instagram app users, range between 13 and 15 years old. It should be mentioned that teens who are under 16, need permission from one of their parents to change different settings to their Instagram app account.
There have been numerous rumors that this social media platform users advanced artificial intelligence technology to detect the user's age, but now Meta confirms all these rumors.
As stated for TechCrunch a couple of months ago, one Instagram way to find out different teens' accounts is to search for birthday posts from their friends. Also, an important key factor in deciding if an account belongs to a teen is to detect and analyze the Instagram reports from other social media users.
“The digital world continues to evolve and we have to evolve with it. That’s why it’s important that we work together with parents to make sure as many teens as possible have the protective settings that come with Teen Accounts.”, Meta stated in their recent blog post.
