n Tuesday, the social media platform announced that it will release a new TikTok parental controls feature that is developed for the safety of teenagers when using this social media app.
TikTok parental controls allow parents to limit the time spent on TikTok for their teens or even block the app for certain hours. Also, using Family Pairing's new TikTok feature, parents can see both following and follower lists from their children’s accounts.
Called, the “Time Away” feature, can entirely block the child’s access to social media platforms for different periods of time such as school, family gatherings, or during the night. TikTok “Time Away” is allowing teenagers to request extra usage time, but it is up to their parents to decide if they will gain more time for scrolling.
More than that parents can entirely see the following and followers lists, allowing them to be more aware of what their teens are consuming on social media. According to the social media platform, TikTok stated that this new Parental Control feature will be for sure more convenient in order to maintain a safe online space for parents and children on TikTok.
In the near future, this new TikTok feature will have the option for children to send a video that is against the rules to their parents in order to alert them.
Even more so, it seems that TikTok is planning to reintroduce the old STEM feed for all teens, even if they have previously turned this feature off.
It should be mentioned that during the restricted TikTok hours, the social media app will show teens under 16, a For You page that helps them to prepare for bedtime with calming music and encouraging prompts.

Now, TikTok’s position is uncertain in the U.S territory, after the recent deadline that Donald Trump imposed for this social media platform. Starting in January, ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, has 75 days to decide if they will sell the app to the U.S. organization or if they plan to eliminate the app from the U.S.
