mazon's share dropped sharply on Thursday due to a weakness in the retailer’s cloud-computing units and a lower-than-expected forecast in the first-quarter
revenue and profit, reported Reuters.
The shares from Amazon fall down as much as 5% in the extended trade market only a few moments after the fourth-quarter earnings report. The fall triggered a $90 billion drop in the market value.
Brian Olsavsky, the Chief Financial Officer from Amazon, said that the capital was expected to expand for this, even roughly similar to last year's quarter when the company spent almost $26.3 billion.
Even more so, the sales estimate for the first quarter failed to meet the company’s expectations even if a $2 billion drop was included in the estimate due to DeepSeek's introduction. Amazon also anticipated between $151 billion and $155 billion in revenue, however, compared with the average estimate of $158 billion.

Amazon Web Services reported a 19% rise count in revenue up to $28.79 billion, dropping short of estimates of $28.87 billion, according to the data summed up by the LSEG. Andy Jassy, the chief executive officer of Amazon, said that the conflicting flow of computer chips held back some of the growth in AWS stating “We could be growing faster, if not for some of the constraints on capacity, and they come in the form of chips from our third-party partners coming a little bit slower than before,".
The cloud's weakness resulted from investors' impatience with Big Tech’s multibillion-dollar capital spending. Daniel Morgan, a senior portfolio manager at Synovus Trust, added, “After very strong third-quarter numbers, this quarter, the growth rates all missed. That's what the market doesn't want to hear." He also referred to the development of new competitors in artificial intelligence, such as DeepSeek.
Similar to its rivals, Amazon is investing more and more into artificial intelligence software development tools. Moreover, at the annual AWS conference held in December, new AI software models were shown a new AI software model that drew the attention of not only businesses but customers as well.
It is also worth mentioning that a new Alexa model is set to be launched this month, with the use of artificial intelligence being integrated into the model.
