ccording to some newly released news by Bloomberg, Apple made approximately 100 job cuts in its digital services group. This would be part of a switch in
priorities for the crucial division, as reported by some people close to the matter.
The Apple job cuts affected employees were notified by the company on Tuesday. These job cuts were made across various distinct teams in Senior Vice President Eddy Cue’s digital services group.
The job cuts involved some engineering positions and the largest job cuts were allegedly made in the team that was in charge of Apple Bookss app and Apple Bookstore. Some job cuts were also made in other digital services groups, including the one responsible for Apple News.
Apple Books is not as prioritized as other Apple apps, as it is not necessarily seen as one of the main Apple services. Even though, Apple Books is still anticipated to get new updates over the years. As for Apple News, the job cuts are not considered to be a clue to become a smaller focus point.
Although Apple job cuts are quite uncommon, the company has gone through at least four cycles of job cuts only in 2024. In one of these job cuts cycles, Apple fired hundreds of employees when it closed down its self-driving vehicle project as well as an attempt to create microLED displays. Apple also shut down a team in San Diego.
However, digital services have overall been a development engine for Apple during the past years. They brought a contribution of 22% of sales in the latest fiscal year, increased from less than 10% intake from a decade ago.
The majority of the Apple job cuts took place in the applications organization that is managed by Vice President Roger Rosner. The workers were notified that have 60 days to find other jobs before being fired. Some of those employees were active across various teams, so other sections were indirectly touched as well.

Even though it is still not clear how many employees Apple has involved in its digital services division, on 30th September 2023, the company declared that it has about 161.000 full-time workers,
Apple refused to make any statements over the Bloomberg News report.
Also, some of Apple’s Silicon Valley buddies are dropping jobs in a huge number as they are facing a slow-down growth and they want to get more into artificial intelligence. Cisco Systems Inc. will cut its headcount by about 7% along with Intel Corp., which is shutting down more than 15% workforce.
