ccording to The Information, Google laid off many employees from various departments who work on Pixel phones, the Google Chrome browser,
and Android software on Thursday.
The report stated that these layoffs come after the Alphabet-owned company offered buyouts to employees in the unit back in January.
When asked about this recent Google news, the company refused to comment. Even though there are not many details about the current Google layoffs, we know for sure that additional information is about to be revealed to get the company’s perspective.
"Since combining the Platforms and Devices teams last year, we’ve focused on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively and this included making some job reductions in addition to the voluntary exit program that we offered in January," the Google spokesperson stated for The Information.
Not long ago, various sources stated that back in February, the company’s employees experienced a Google Cloud layoff, affecting just a few teams.
Back then, the company offered U.S. employees who worked in the People Operations and Human Relations division a program for the voluntary exit as part of Google’s internal reorganization plans. So, the company’s priorities were to drive more savings because Google’s future plans for 2025 are to develop more toward artificial intelligence.

The company’s employees from level 4 and level 5 that experienced Google layoffs, were promised a separation payment equivalent to 14 weeks of salary along with one week for every year of service. Back in February, the Alphabet-owned company also announced layoffs for several of Google’s employees from the cloud unit.
Currently, we don’t know for sure the exact number of employees who are experiencing Android layoffs or Pixel layoffs. The company’s decision is able to highlight its initial plan that was made public about 2 years ago, in January 2023. Back then, Alphabet made an announcement that revealed the company’s plans to lay off about 12,000 employees, equivalent to around 6% of the worldwide workforce.
