ccording to the Honor CEO, James Li, the Chinese company, is planning to make an Honor AI investment of about $10 billion in the next five years in order
to develop artificial intelligence technology for all its devices. So, based on this Honot AI investment, the company wants to expand its device line, from being an only smartphone maker to becoming a company that creates tables, and more wearable devices along with artificial intelligence systems for computers.
This investment plan was initially revealed at the Mobile World Congress that happened in Barcelona and was planned to support the Chinese phone maker into becoming an ecosystem company powered by artificial intelligence technology.
However, it should be mentioned that the Chinese company is still at the beginning of the market business, due to the fact that the Huawei Honor group separated in 2020 when Huawei was affected directly by the U.S. sanctions. After this decision, the Chinese app intended to expand outside of China in order to be part of the phone market along with Samsung, Apple, and other tech giants.
Even more so, the Honor AI investment announcement comes in a period where tech giants are involved in an artificial intelligence rivalry, especially after DeepSeek’s official launch. Now, various technology companies are looking to integrate the DeepSeek technology into their products and services.

It’s true that Honor has been trying to develop more interesting products that could compete with the tech giants such as Honor watches or the Honor Magic phone line, but remains for now a small industry competitor compared with Samsung, Apple, and other phone makers.
According to IDC data, Honor’s smartphone market share outside China reached 2.3% in 2024 compared with 1.7% recorded in 2023. In China, Honor has dropped in the top phone shipments, from second to fourth place, with only 14.9% of the market share.
It’s important to mention that a part of the $10 billion investment will be allocated to creating a platform to support a wide range of artificial intelligence-powered Honor devices. On the other hand, a small part of the investment will be used for developing various Artificial General Intelligence technologies.
“This is not limited to our own devices, but also AI devices from different partners, so the different kinds of AI devices can talk to each other, and consumers can have more choices and seamless experiences,”, an Honor spokesperson stated.
