impressive record number of new subscribers after several events that happened in the holiday quarter such as sporting events, new series seasons, and celebrity performances.
During the fourth quarter of 2024, the streaming platform increased the number of subscribers to about 18.9 million subscribers leading to nearly 302 million Netflix customers. This impressive number is the biggest in Netflix’s history during just a single quarter, and according to the company about half of the new users have chosen the ad-supported Netflix subscription in those countries where this Netflix plan is available.
But after this impressive popularity, the streaming platform plans to raise its Netflix plans again for various countries such as Canada, the U.S., Argentina, and Portugal.
According to a company’s spokesperson, Mohu Zhou, the new Netflix prices will increase from $6,99 to $7,99 for the ad-supported streaming tier. The Netflix subscription ad-free will be raised to $17,99 from the previous $15,49 price. And the Premium version will have a new Netflix price of $24,99, compared to the past $22,99. It should be mentioned that these new Netflix prices will be applied to users starting with the next payment period.

It seems that the majority of the investors are very pleased with the recent Netflix results because the streaming platform recorded a Netflix shares increase of about 13% in the extended trade. This Netflix shares increased managed to lift the stock market value by about $50 billion.
“As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix,”, the streaming platform stated in a letter to investors.
It should be mentioned that besides the new Netflix prices, the streaming platform plans to introduce a new Netflix subscription with Ads that will allow users with an ad-supported plan to add another user outside their household to the subscription. Currently, if users want to add an extra user, they need to have $7,99 extra per month to have the same add-free in two households.
"We exceeded our ads revenue target in the fourth quarter. We doubled our ads revenue year over year last year. We expect to double it again this year.", the Co-CEO of Netflix, Greg Peters stated.
