T&T, the U.S. telecommunications operator together with Nokia, the Finnish network equipment maker, signed this Tuesday, an expansion agreement for
multiple years in order to upgrade the U.S telecom operator’s voice carriage along with the 5G network automation in the U.S territory.
This AT&T Internet and Nokia deal comes about a year after the Nokia phone maker lost a major contract with the same telecommunications operator at the expense of its rival, Ericsson. The U.S AT&T internet operator chose to close a deal with Ericsson at the end of 2023, in order to develop a powerful telecommunications network that will support about 70% of the entire wireless traffic across the U.S. territory until 2026.
According to the Finnish network equipment and phone maker, the upgrade to the telecom operator’s main network will support new and improved voice services along with artificial intelligence technology integration and various machine learning abilities.
“With focused execution and investment, AT&T continues to make excellent progress in realizing automation at all levels of its network and service operations. We are pleased to continue our relationship with Nokia to further optimize our network operations and enable new services that better support our customers’ evolving needs.”, Yigal Elbaz, the senior vice president of AT&T telecommunications operator stated.
When contacted both, AT&T internet and telecom operator and the Finnish company Nokia have refused to reveal the value of this new significant deal.

"We are pleased to continue our relationship with Nokia to further optimize our network operations and enable new services that better support our customers' evolving needs,", Yigal Elbaz, also said.
Even more so, last week, the Nokia phone and network equipment maker announced a better-than-expected quarterly operating profit and sales, mostly driven by the increased demand for telecommunications equipment from different mobile operators from India and North America.
To maintain its position in this recent artificial intelligence boom, the Finnish company also closed last year a $2.3 billion deal to buy Infinera, planning to benefit from the huge investments that were directed to various data centers, including the Stargate project which has a recent investment of $500 billion from OpenAI, Softbank and Oracle.
