vidia announced at the Nvidia AI Summit Japan a series of strategic partnerships with SoftBank Corp.
The collaboration between the two big companies aims to support the acceleration of Japan’s AI initiatives, strengthen the global technology ecosystem, and open up billions of dollars of revenue opportunities for telecom providers around the world.
Nvidia, the leading chip maker and SoftBank Group's telecommunications group, showed the world’s first AI-powered 5G telecommunications network at the Nvidia AI Conference in Japan. This collaboration will drive an even higher market share, with Nvidia poised to set new records.
"Every other telco will have to follow this new wave," said Masayoshi Son, the CEO of SoftBank Group, to Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia.
SoftBank is now using Nvidia AI Aerial to create a breakthrough innovation in computing by delivering AI services across cellular networks. Up until now, traditional telecommunications hardware has been designed with custom chips made to optimize mobile data traffic, but it is not suitable for the demands of the new AI services. They also require much less electricity, which is better for the environment.
Now, the network will be able to run artificial intelligence and 5G frequencies simultaneously. This process is also known as Artificial Intelligence Radio Access Network (AI-RAN).
“What will result is an AI grid that runs across Japan,” stated Huang, explaining that this breakthrough will transform traditional communications networks into a fully integrated AI network.

In addition to integrating artificial intelligence into 5G frequency, Jensen Huang also revealed at the Nvidia Conference in Japan that SoftBank is developing the most powerful AI supercomputer in Japan. SoftBank Corp is the first to receive NVIDIA’s Blackwell chip designs, which will support the company in building an Nvidia supercomputer with high-performance computing across various industries.
“As you say, this is the reset, this is the catch-up moment for this revolution. We can’t miss this time, " Son told Huang, noting that this will position Japan as a global leader in the next generation of technology.
Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, has been traveling the world to host such events in order to promote what he describes as the “new industrial revolution”. Besides the AI network and the Nvidia supercomputer, the leading company has also secured several AI partnerships in India to establish constant growth in the tech market by providing multiple companies with AI chips.
“With SoftBank’s significant investment in NVIDIA’s full-stack AI, Omniverse and 5G AI-RAN platforms, Japan is leaping into the AI industrial revolution to become a global leader.” – stated Huang.
