only for games. Their latest feature was announced this Tuesday and is expected to appear in users' browsers or apps soon. The Playables feature will also be available on YouTube’s homepage; however, for some users, the app feature has been available since last November for YouTube Premium subscribers.
It’s also worth mentioning that YouTube’s new feature – Playables, doesn’t monetize with paid ads or in-app purchases. So, YouTube is not breaking any of the rules that Apple’s App Store has available. But, it is also worth mentioning that Playables competes with Apple’s App Store’s free game center. Free games are usually more downloaded by casual players and can generate revenue when ads are implemented.
Playables hasn’t offered their interest in monetizing their free game center – yet the possibility is available. This new feature was a solution to keeping the users engaged within the app. Playables are another way users can take a break between watching videos, listening to music, their favorite podcast, or simply browsing the platform. YouTube has been and still is one of the most used platforms available, helping users stay entertained and always finding new ways in which users can spend more time on the app.
Now, if you were wondering what kind of games will be available on YouTube’s new feature, think about Angry Birds Showdown, Words of Wonders, Cut the Rope, Trivia Crack, Tomb of the Mask, Stuck Bounce, and other famous games. Even more so, GameSnacks will be available. This was developed from their internal incubator to bring users to emerging markets.
In an official blog post, YouTube states where the new feature will be available and what it will offer: “Head to the main YouTube Home page, either on desktop or the iOS and Android app, and find Playables from the Explore menu. Choose from 75+ games and jump right in! You can even share the game with friends by tapping the three-dot more menu.”
