Ratan Tata was one of the most notorious business leaders from India, leading the biggest companies conglomerate in India. The group was founded in 1868 and has products and services in over 150 countries, with operations in over 100 countries.
It is a value-based corporation that during the time of Ratan Tata acquired companies in several domains including law, investments, airlines, electronics, healthcare, electronics and e-commerce. The conglomerate has $100bn annual revenue.
Tata Group posted on their website regarding the death of Ratan “Mr. Tata’s dedication to philanthropy and the development of society has touched the lives of millions. From education to healthcare, his initiatives have left a deep-rooted mark that will benefit generations to come. Reinforcing all of this work was Mr. Tata’s genuine humility in every individual interaction.”
Natarajan Chandrasekaran, saying “On behalf of the entire Tata family, I extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones” and that "His legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive to uphold the principles he so passionately championed.".
Even more so, the UK Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said in a commemoratory speech about Tata that he was a “titan of the business world" who "played a huge role in shaping British industry".
In 2012, he ended his career as the chairman of the group and became chairman emeritus of Tata Sons which is the group's holding company.
Another eulogy was brought by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that talked about Tata as being a “visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being” on the social media platform X.
The mogul was born in 1937 in a Parsi family and studied architecture and structural engineering at Cornell University US. Moving further in 1962 he became a member of Tata Industries and was a promoter of the group. From then on, he focused his career on developing and scaling the conglomerate, in 1991 being named by JRD Tata his successor. He led the conglomerate till 2012 when he retired from his position.
One of his hobbies was scuba diving, which melted down over the years as his “ ears could take the pressure no more”. Another detail worth mentioning is his love for animals, and especially dogs “My love for dogs as pets is ever strong and will continue for as long as I live,"
“There is an indescribable sadness every time one of my pets passes away and I resolve I cannot go through another parting of that nature. And yet, two-three years down the road, my home becomes too empty and too quiet for me to live without them, so there is another dog that gets my affection and attention, just like the last one,” he spoke in an interview.
