ednesday the streaming company announced that they will start to implement a paying method for the podcast hosts that make very popular videos on Spotify.
By including this, Spotify music videos streaming platform aim to minimize YouTube's dominance in this field.
So, in this Spotify update, the music videos streaming platform released its “Partner Program” which allows creators to monetize their content outside of the advertising revenue. The automated ad breaks in these videos will be turned off for the paid subscribers of Spotify, in order to support more video podcast consumption.
Even though Spotify music videos streaming app represents one of the top choices for listening to podcasts, YouTube still represents the first choice for video streaming overall. However, the Spotify video platform believes that by giving listeners and viewers a smooth podcast experience, users will likely choose to watch the podcasts on the music videos streaming platform rather than on its competitor, YouTube.
Since the podcast's launch in 2022, Spotify has confirmed that more than 250 million users watched a podcast on the platform. Also, the company stated that almost two-thirds of the listeners prefer to see a video component along with the podcast itself.

And by giving you, the creators, another path to monetization beyond ads, we’re freeing you up to spend more time doing what you love: creating.”, Daniel Ek, the CEO of Spotify stated in a blog post.

It’s worth mentioning that both changes for the Spotify streaming platform will be available starting on January 2nd, 2025 in the U.S., UK, Australia, and also Canada and the eligible Spotify creators are able to apply in order to join the Spotify Partner Program.
Spotify video platform also revealed that all creators are able now to upload clips directly to the platform in order to promote their podcasts. These videos will appear in the user’s Home feeds, Podcasts feed, and in the Now Playing view. But it’s important to mention that this Spotify update does not aim to turn the streaming platform into a hub for short-form content but they plan to encourage the subscribers to explore the full episode of the podcast.
