any possible situations that might appear. We have social media networks, dating apps, and technology everywhere we look. Yet, for some finding the right person to talk to can be an easier task than it is for others. So, it only seemed natural to use all the technology we have to help us not only deliver tasks faster and make our lives easier or more productive but, to also have the social interactions we desire.
And here is where dating apps come into play…Even more so, if you are not living under a rock I am sure you already heard about the digital platform Bumble.
What is Bumble?
Bumble, as they advertise it, is a date, chat, meeting, and networking space we all can join to create meaningful relationships. But, this dating app came with a twist – it is the space where women have the ability to make the first move. A dating app created by women for women not only has the ability to generate a good user experience and deliver better results than its competitor platforms which are usually ruled by men.
How did Bumble start?
The speed dating platform was founded in 2014 by Whitney Wolfe. The dating platform was one of the first ones that gave women the leading power, putting them in the center of attention. The app that Whitney Wolfe created is more than a speed dating platform. It is divided into three niches in order to cover all the needs its users have – Bumble Date (finding your match), Bumble for Friends (creating friendships), and Bumble Buzz (for professional networking).
But, Whitney Wolfe is not your regular tech entrepreneur. She created her startup without any knowledge of coding, her hidden magic power being marketing. The power of creating a brand identity and fighting against all odds, as Tinder was the primary dating platform at that time.
After finishing her studies in 2011, Whitney Wolfe got her degree in international finance, starting her career by joining a startup called Cardify. In the digital platform of this startup, the ability to swipe, giving the users the ability to see and check the retail loyalty options. The interesting part is, that by leveraging these features, a few colleges that also worked for this startup decided to implement those features and start Tinder. And, Cindy became Tinder’s marketing fairy.
How Did she advertise Tinder?
She decided to host pizza parties and free flayers among the college campuses and dorms, leading Tinder’s development and growth in only two years getting them to have 50+M users. However, after some disagreements she decided to leave Tinder and start on her own – and so Bumble was born.
A fresh start…
After the difficulties she had faced at Tinder’s HQ, she wanted to create an app dedicated to women. So, just at 24, she managed to come up with the best branding and digital platform where women could complement and support each other. And, with the help of Andrey Andreev, a well-known Russian billionaire who had created the most notorious speed dating app in the world, Badoo, she managed to succeed.
After they launched the Bumble dating app, she started visiting sororities and letting them know about the latest speed dating app that put them in control. Even more so, they were visiting fraternities and letting all the boys know that girls were now using Bumble, creating their cloud and potential users. By the end of 2021, Bumble having a revenue of nearly $100 million.
Present
In the present moment, after doing a great job leading Bumble, Cindy will step out of the position of CEO. stating “This move to Executive Chair gives me the ability to step forward into a new and exciting role, get back to my founder roots, and bring immense passion and focus to this next chapter of growth,” – focusing on new ways to improve the app and the user experience it provides.
