Alphabet would have expected.
This month, the company announced at its event Google I/O 2024, a better search engine that now has the power to interpret images, have faster and better responses, and offer a more secure space for its users – all due to AI. Leading to users' high expectations, which apparently turned into criticism.
AI Overviews, the new feature released by Google has recommended its users to use “non-toxic glue” so that cheese can stick better to pizza. This recommendation can not be taken seriously, as Google representatives state this is an isolated case. Another recommendation by Google’s AI assistant talks about how we should eat one rock daily as geologists say.
Those answers did not go under the radar, as expected, and were mocked all over the internet and social media platforms. Google responded to those unfortunate outcomes: "The examples we've seen are generally very uncommon queries and aren’t representative of most people’s experiences,". And that “The vast majority of AI overviews provide high-quality information, with links to dig deeper on the web.”
Google also said that the mistakes produced by artificial intelligence will be identified and resolved. Yet, it is worth mentioning that this is not the first time Google has faced difficulties with its AI software. In February this year, Google was forced to stop its Chatbot Gemini, after being criticized for the responses it had been sending. But before Gemini became too “woke” in its responses, its users also criticized Bard.
Google Generative Experience has different concepts depending on the context. This new feature has the power of using AI, machine learning, and natural language processing to create a better user experience.
The new AI model launched by Google was available this month and can offer a summary of the available responses the browser would have been able to provide. This makes the whole process of receiving information faster. Despite its not-so-great responses, Google remains one of the most common search engines.
