But while all these advancements are incredible, the future of work is at risk! We all probably thought once, “How long before a robot will take my job?”. It’s a fair concern since AI will displace some people from their jobs. But a period with so much change will work both ways, creating jobs for the future and automating others - so we’re not “doomed” as many pessimists believe. The silver lining is that many jobs will still require a human touch - especially those involving talking and relating to people. A robot can’t do that naturally - no matter how advanced it is.
Look: computers can never replace attributes such as creativity, emotional intelligence, and physical depth. If you are concerned about the future of work, do not worry - there are still many opportunities for people to contribute significantly to the world. And the best part
Will AI be the death of creativity? We don’t think so!
Can we really believe that a person who genuinely appreciates the creative process and the originality of the craft will look at someone’s art and say, “An AI will do that better.”? While AI-generated art is impressive, it will never be more than a mathematically produced mesh of others’ work. Now, people get inspired by others, but it’s not the same thing!
Reading a book that touches your soul is something an algorithm will never match. Creativity is here to stay - no matter how many AI art generators will appear. And it’s not just the artsy type of creativity. Creativity in all its forms will be hugely beneficial to humans in the following years, as original ideas, solutions, and scenarios will need to be created when the automation of boring tasks will get humans free.
Artists, authors, musicians, marketing, and salespeople are just a few examples of careers that need originality and human judgment. These people can take raw things like ideas and thoughts and turn them into something that connects with our innermost emotions. That’s something a machine won’t be able to do. It doesn’t matter how much data and algorithms we feed it. And these are always going to be jobs for the future!
Think about it like this - people on TikTok use AI to create songs by their favorite artists. The voice is the same, but if you don’t know that the artist himself has put it out - it doesn’t hit the same spot. Unlike other attributes, creativity cannot be fully grasped by a machine. It’s an intangible trait that distinguishes us as humans.
No machine will stand a chance against social interaction.
Come on - having a conversation with someone who just “gets” you is something else. You cannot replicate that with a robot. At least to the same level of awkwardness, warmth, and natural feeling. Therefore, career paths that involve reading body language, understanding nonverbal cues, and empathizing with others are here to stay.
That’s why teachers will never be out of jobs. A future where robots will teach our children might sound plausible, but in reality, it is full of potential dangers and problems. Some might even say it’s sad... A human teaches you to act and behave like a human. We wouldn’t want a robot as the role model of our children now, would we?
Even more so, nurses and social workers will be a part of our future nonetheless. These jobs require a human connection, empathy, and the capacity to relate to people. Think about waking up after a medical procedure, and instead of being greeted by a smiling human being genuinely happy that you woke up, you’d only be surrounded by machines. We’re not going to let that happen.
In careers where we have to connect with patients, clients, or students, we use more than just our eyes and ears. There is some “heart” involved as well. Therefore, we can soothe anxiety, alleviate emotional pain, connect, and do it all as humans always did. Get a robot to do that, and we might realize we have a problem.
Think about it like this. You are wrapped in a warm blanket on a cold winter night. You feel safe, comfortable, and protected. That is the type of emotion that someone with emotional intelligence can elicit in others. They foster a safe environment in which people can be themselves and open up.
High-level strategic thinking and decision-making skills are uniquely human. Good luck to AI technology trying to replicate them!
Have you ever been in a situation where you had to make a tough decision that could have far-reaching consequences? Maybe it was at work, or it was a personal one that affected your family and friends. The way you dealt with it is only human. While AI technology can be trained for decision-making, you can never trust it to make the best decision possible. Especially when we’re talking about subjective scenarios!
CEOs, politicians, and military leaders are just a few jobs requiring high-level strategic thinking and decision-making. It’s hard to replicate. I cannot imagine a robot mayor. I’d rather stick to dogs (rest in peace, Mayor Max II). Moving forward, the ability to anticipate future trends and make decisions that will shape the future of an organization or country is not something we want to live in the hands of artificial intelligence. We’d be a bug away from nuclear war, that’s for sure.
When playing a chess game on a grand scale like this - every move has consequences that can be beyond solving. If we were to screw it up, at least we should do it ourselves. While machines can analyze data and provide insights, they do not have the human intuition that is essential to strategic thinking. They can’t see the bigger picture!
So, if your job involves decision-making and strategic thinking - don’t stress it out. You have the unique ability to make a positive impact on the world. Or at least in your small community!
At the end of the day, the reality is that we won’t stop developing AI technology. It’s in our nature to just keep going and see what happens. But we think that while some industries will be more disrupted, others will keep their grounds. And humans might even thank technology in the future for freeing them up to spend their time on more creative endeavors.
